Mid-Missouri Arts Alliance is a non-profit organization with the mission to work with local artists of all ages, art educators and community members to build support for the arts in the So. Bo. County region and beyond. MMAA accomplishes this through exhibits, workshops & classes for both adults and youth plus scholarships for young, emerging artists.
MMAA have been meeting together since 2011 in various local businesses, the library, homes and parks. They held their first art show at Central Bank of Boone County in 2012 and awarded their first scholarship that following May.
MMAA became incorporated and achieved non-profit status in October 2015. Its first “official” year was to be spent in fundraising so they could afford a home of their own, but circumstances and a landlady that appreciated what MMAA was trying to do changed all that and the Mid-Missouri Arts Alliance Art Gallery and Studios was opened in March 2016.
Almost 3 years later, MMAA has gone from 3 founding members to over 70 members. The sales gallery includes 10 local artists displaying and selling their work to the public. So far this year they have sold almost $5,000.00 in artwork! Additionally, there are an average of 5 youths participating in Youth ArtPlace learning everything from drawing to painting to sculpture. And they had over 20 students participate this year in our Summer Art Camp.
MMAA has offered adult classes in painting, drawing, encaustics, gourd painting, felting and so much more. There are 3 artists in residence using our studio space and have Community Art Night every Wednesday from 6:30pm to 9pm where the public is welcome to come in and be creative.
This year MMAA hosted its first plein air event in October. Twenty-five artists from Missouri and Illinois competed in the 3-day event with over 10 paintings sold during the Wet Paint Reception.
To round out the year, MMAA hosted the 3rd Annual Winter Gift Gallery, November 30, December 1
and 2nd. All artwork and gifts for sale in the gallery lists at $50 and under. This is a very popular event and gives everyone a chance to own unique, one of a kind, artwork produced by local artists.
None of this would be possible without their dedicated board, volunteers and members. Or without the solid support received from the Southern Boone community!
